One of the most respected hitting coaches in baseball today, Ortegon brings 30-years of experience as a professional player, coach and manager to Line Drive. Ortegon’s coaching career at the professional level spans more than 15 years and includes positions with the Philadelphia Phillies, Texas Rangers, Cincinnati Reds, Atlanta Braves, and Toronto Blue Jays organizations.

Legendary hitting coaches Rudy Jaramillo and Charlie Manuel are among the numerous coaches and players with whom Ortegon has worked closely and shares an association. Following his successful college career at Lubbock Christian and Grand Canyon University, Ortegon was signed by current Chicago Cubs Manager Joe Maddon to a minor league contract to play for the California Angels.

At his core, Ortegon is an educator. He spent the early part of his post-playing career as a high school teacher and head coach. His ability to teach, communicate and build a rapport with players has earned him the trust of coaches and players at the games highest level. In addition to his ability to teach the mechanics of hitting, Ortegon is equally known for his ability to help players understand the mental discipline of hitting. His book The Hitter’s Discipline was released in Fall 2018.

In his role at Line Drive, Ortegon oversees all coaches, teaching and baseball curriculum; including the evaluation and implementation of all training technology.
